Walking off pounds isn’t enough

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that half of the 54 percent of overweight Americans trying to shed pounds by walking aren’t doing enough. Here are other statistics:


  • Only 28 percent of the people trying to slim down said they worked out 30 minutes a day at least five days a week, which is the minimum government recommendation.


  • Three-quarters of those with a college education said they exercised regularly compared to less than half of those who didn’t have a high school diploma.


  • Overweight adults in the Midwest are the most active, while those in the Southern states are less likely to exercise.
