Most of us are aware of how important nutrition is to our overall well-being, and most of us believe we do a pretty good job of making healthy choices when it comes to the food we eat. So you’d probably be quite surprised to learn that the opposite is actually true. Rather than making smart choices most of us make poor choices.
You’ve heard it over and over – shop the outside isles of the grocery store because that’s where all the fresh products and healthiest products reside. But we all purchase some prepackaged products. It’s just the way it is in the modern times.
The trouble comes in when we believe the advertisements we hear and the packaging we see without actually taking the time to read the labels and discover what is really in the package we are about to buy. Marketing drives our buying habits and we often find ourselves buying products based on what it is we’ve been told. Buzz words like “low salt” “low fat” “no sugar” “healthy choice” and we could go on and on, make us believe that we are making a healthy choice.
Did you know that often those products marked low fat or low salt have more of these ingredients than the original version and many times are far from healthy. Then there is the no sugar where manufacturers replace real sugar with artificial sweeteners that have a host of health problems associated with them. Another deadly ingredient that affects many negatively is MSG, yet we are constantly told it’s a natural flavor enhancer with no health risks associated with it.
The truth is unless you look out for your own health, no one else will. Food manufacturers want to sell their products and they’ll do that however they can even if it means stretching the truth or being creative with how ingredients are listed. The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to start reading labels. That way you’ll be in charge of what you eat and make healthier choices.
Remember, Don’t be a victim!
